I began my jewelry-making journey when I took some classes at a local art studio near my home at the time in Southwest Florida. I started with “Cold Connections,” making jewelry without the use of heat or soldering, which incorporates techniques such as wire wrapping and riveting.
I then enrolled in silversmith classes and made a few rings. Before long, I bought a cabbing machine to grind and polish my own stones, and all the tools I needed to create works of art from metal and stone.
Everything I make is from raw stone and silver stock. Although I do purchase silver sheets, wire, and necklace chains from suppliers, I also recycle small silver pieces leftover from my work. Every piece that leaves my studio is one-of-a-kind, hand-made from start to finish.
Ear wires, ring shanks, and pendant mounts can be replicated; however, each stone is unique, like a fingerprint. I look at a raw stone and make what I can with it. Sometimes I see symmetrical shapes and other times I let the stone tell me how it should look on a piece of jewelry. I like leaving as much of the stone as nature created it, often ending up with highly polished, yet irregularly-shaped piece. I do all of my work in my studio in Etowah, North Carolina.
My vision is for people to enjoy wearing each piece as much as I enjoyed creating it.
